SMX London – SEO Strategies, Tools and Tips
Having attended SMX London on the 4th and 5th November and sitting through two days and 15 hours worth of presentations I felt very much inspired and on the ball about latest SEO strategies, tools and tips to get any campaign up and going.
With SEO adrenaline pumping (and some good coffee) the first day kicked off with a keynote about Empowering Search Engine Marketers and the Future of Keyword Technology, by Nathan Buggia and ZhaoHui Tang from Microsoft.
They demonstrated Microsoft’s AdCenter Excel plugin, which is available for download, although since the is currently in beta, UK specific data is not available yet. The plugin is very versatile and users can manipulate long keyword lists. You can even extract extremely useful historical data and demographic breakdowns.
Instead of bombarding you with essays of SMX London I am going to breakdown the 2 days into digestible tools and tips.
-
Microsoft AdCenter and Live Search
Give Microsoft’s AdCenter a go, although it’s similar to Google Analytics, in addition to above there are some very useful ways of extracting crucial data such as, what’s wrong with your website, presenting pages which have common issues, pages that have been blocked, focus on Malware and which pages and outbound links contain malware. -
Discover Keyword Opportunities
Dig deep inside the data available to you to make encouraged decisions about keywords and phrases. Use the language of the customer to increase your conversion rate, by finding out what people are inputting into search engines. Talk to them as the best keywords come from the customer. Focus on competitive intelligence and find out which keywords your competitors are using.Use press releases, 3
rd party company reviews, go through analytics and log files to find the core phrases and expand on those and avoid using jargon.
Make sure the keywords are relevant, consider using tail terms and longer phrases, try and get inside the mind of the user.Use PPC to do a quick test of your chosen keywords and phrases.Think of different ways of saying things and use slang terms.
